really, you all say (maybe), after months of never posting, i will break silence by talking about reality tv??!?

well this being a journal and all here i go.

am i surprised in the end that kris allen won, not so much. where were all those danny gokey votes to go anyway. and i like kris. he did some great things. his version of "heartless" is super great. i was nervous when he did "ain't no sunshine" and that was also a great version. "she works hard for the money", "feel my love", and "once" all great covers. someday down the line i might even buy his music. i like people singing simply along with guitars. He seems like a really nice guy and the kind of christian who is not a homophobe and will be part of the way that younger generations will not stand in the way of equal rights for queers.

BUT HE DOES NOT HOLD A CANDLE TO ADAM LAMBERT! he knows it and said it right away after he won.

i have not always watched american idol. only the last couple of years. and things changed this season for me personally cuz now i have a dvr. but the last 3 months have been better on tuesday nights when i could come home from work (which has been really hard thru the winter due to the sloooowwwwwness) and take in the amazing performances that adam has put out there.

not only has he covered some of my favorite songs of all time - "feeling good", "whole lotta love", "ring of fire" - all in like my top 15 of all songs ever in the history of time. but also moved me with "mad world", "tracks of my tears", "black and white". and the duet with allison was ridiculous amazing. i was not super crazy about the show version of "one" but the itunes version is superb.

and then on the finale show, umm hello singing with kiss???!?!? and QUEEN!!!!!!!!!?!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?? WTF - INCREDIBLE. please please please please please please please go on tour with queen so i can pay hundreds of dollars and do whatever i can to be as close to stage as possible.

just go on tour so i can see you live. i know swifty will be by my side. and record amazing albums soon so i can buy them.

i have been captivated by his performances. the sneer, the fashion (omg the white suit against the pink staircase, the leather, the eyeliner - specifically the glittery look during the kiss performance and don't get me started on the crazy amazing shoulder cages), even the kinda annoying tongue. the man has mad vocal skills.

please may he come out soon in a vocal way. i mean we all know he's gay. i don't even think he is really hiding it, just not engaging in the speculation. we need a freddy mercury for a new generation. go on ellen and do it.
do your part to move queer rights forward, it will not hurt your career in any way. you have a looooonnnngggg future ahead.

and i am a fan for life.
i will miss seeing you every week.
yours truly.
mims

so last nite at my job we were closed for a private holiday party. for nintendo. i always love these things cuz they are easy, a change from my usual routine and profitable. before thanksgiving a group of 6 people from nintendo came by to sample food and cocktails and i waited on them and they were super nice.

so last nite at the end of the party i was talking to one of the guys who had come in to suss us out. they were super happy with the whole event and i was joking with him that i did not see any wii's around for me to have. that's when he gave me his email address and said he would get me one for free!!!

whoo hoo.

part of me is tempted to sell in on ebay, but i think i will keep it.

by the way, tonite forge is doing a celebration of the repeal of prohibition (75 th anniversary) and you could come by and get a french 75 cocktail at the bar FOR 25 CENTS!!!! and you could say hello to me.

after a week and a day of intensive training, forge opens tonite for the first nite of "friends and family".

we are doing a minimum of covers with a full staff so it'll be easy. but still, i did not sleep well, in that nite before the first day of school kinda way. the restaurant looks great. the staff is solid. the food is amazing. i am showered and everything is washed and ready to go. hopefully the a/c is fully running giving the almost 100 degree temps...

it's exciting!

today the rain poured down inside my apartment once again. yes indeed for the third time in the last two years there was water flowing from above into by bathroom. i knocked on my upstairs neighbors door, no answer. i knocked on the third floor apartment above mine, no answer.

so i call sean - the upstairs neighbor, he's in the city. he jumps into cab. 45 minutes after the deluge starts, he gets home and in fact the water is not from his place but is from the third floor. we don't know to do. the joan the very mean condo board treasure comes in yelling and bitching...

cut to me calling 311, who summons the fire department. they show up, pry open the door and find that the water line from the washer has busted and is gushing water. this must have been going on for several hours. hundreds of gallons of water must have flowed through the building.

my apartment is in shambles.
but now it is dry. thankfully aaron, the condo board president had a wet vac that helped to get much of the remaining water up.

so then sean and i had a bit of jamesons and a bit to smoke and was able to let much of the stress go.

i never want to deal with this again. three times is enough.

i guess it is good that my bathroom ceiling has never been fixed from the last two times this has happened.

okay, i'll fess up. i watch some reality tv. in specific american idol and top chef. i won't go into my total obsession with "lost" but here i am friends confessing part of my love for some television. and thank goodness for youtube so i can watch things late at night when i have gotten home from work and need to catch up.

but i gotta say it's a sad week for me as far as who has gotten booted off.

first top chef. one of the lesbians got kicked to the curb. she got shafted, i mean salt is important but still why not that whack job spike (or is it andrew, i get them confused). or for that matter how about richard for mealy fish with THE SCALES STILL ON, clearly this is a much larger problem. clearly they just wanted to spilt the lezzie couple up. i fear that the cutie jen will be close behind.

secondly american idol. sad to have michael johns off. personally i loved him. and that he got voted off before that super annoying katy lee cook is maddening. i mean she kinda sucks and i can't stand the flag waving, god loving bullshit she trots out. i know that the little david will probably win but now i will throw my support behind the other david (cook), not that my support means anything cuz i don't vote. i mean i'll watch it but i just can't bring myself to vote.

i hope i have not lost too much respect from you my friends for my tv confessional.

xo
omb

(remember, it's on Greenwich time, not local time. For me, the strike starts at 7, I think)

Copied from </a></b></a>epilady.

he one-day content strike is on for this Friday, March 21, from midnight GMT to midnight GMT. Here that translates to Thursday, March 20, 5:00 PM -

For 24 hours, we will not post or comment to LJ. Not in our own journals, not in communities. Not publicly, privately, or under friends-lock.

Why? Because the new owners of LJ said they were going to listen to a user driven advisory board before making any changes, and didn't. They instead tried to take away all GLBT related interest groups, and were about to take away all free, ad free accounts as well and make LJ paid. Basic/free users help drive this site! And paid or not, our interests should not be dictated to us.

This is a protest that will have long-lasting effects, showing up forever in the daily posting statistics.

This is a protest that will not harm LJ in the long run, as leaving LJ might do.

This is a protest that will demonstrate the power of community, as all users unite to support Basic users and the concept of ad-free space.

This is a protest that will educate the new owners that LJ is driven by user-created content.

Content Strike Friday March 21, from midnight to midnight GMT

* We are holding the Content Strike because we want to demonstrate that LiveJournal is content-driven.
* We are holding the Content Strike because we want the new owners of LiveJournal to better understand the power and resolve of the LJ Community of Users.
* We are holding the Content Strike because all of us, Paid, Permanent and Plus users as well as Basic, want to demonstrate our solidarity as a Community of Users. We do not consider Basic users to be freeloaders, we consider them to be valuable content-providers and Friends.
* We are holding the Content Strike because we ache to do something to show our displeasure, and commenting on the news post -- even with cat macros -- just isn't powerful enough!

---------------------------------------

The strike has three terms:

1. Restore basic accounts for new account creation.
2. Inform users before any change to the site that affects how we use the site or demands on our resources.
3. Run change proposals by the Advisory Board and take their advice into account before implementation of any change.

***

The 24-hour strike will begin at the following times for the following locations:

Thursday, March 20, 2:00 PM -- Honolulu
Thursday, March 20, 4:00 PM -- Anchorage
Thursday, March 20, 5:00 PM -- San Francisco; Los Angeles -
Thursday, March 20, 6:00 PM -- Mexico City; Denver - Navajo Nations in AZ.
Thursday, March 20, 7:00 PM -- Chicago
Thursday, March 20, 8:00 PM -- Montreal; New York
Thursday, March 20, 9:00 PM -- Buenos Aires
Midnight -- London
Friday, March 21, 1:00 AM -- Paris
Friday, March 21, 2:00 AM -- Istanbul
Friday, March 21, 3:00 AM -- Moscow
Friday, March 21, 4:00 AM -- Dubai
Friday, March 21, 5:00 AM -- Islamabad
Friday, March 21, 6:00 AM -- Bangladesh
Friday, March 21, 7:00 AM -- Bangkok
Friday, March 21, 8:00 AM -- Singapore
Friday, March 21, 9:00 AM -- Tokyo
Friday, March 21, 10:00 AM -- Brisbane
Friday, March 21, 11:00 AM -- Sydney
Friday, March 21, 12 Noon -- Suva

----------------------------------------

----------------------------------------

How Can I Help?

DO post about this in your own LJ.
DO post and comment about it in appropriate communities.
DO remember that it's based on Greenwich Mean Time, which may not be your local time.
DO turn off LoudTwitter and your RSS feeds for 24 hours.

DON'T forget to get permission from community mods before making an off-topic post or comment about the strike.
DON'T be spammy with your posts or comments about the strike.
DON'T forget to turn your LoudTwitter and RSS feeds back on when the strike is over.
DON'T post anything on LJ from midnight to midnight March 21 (see above times for your actual start time)
